A snowstorm caused about 25 IKEA workers and six customers to be stranded overnight in an Ikea store in Aalborg, Denmark.

After 12 inches of snow fell quickly, they got trapped inside the store an impromptu overnight stay Wednesday night.

“It was an experience once in a lifetime,” IKEA store manager Peter Elmose told Insider. “I’ve worked at IKEA and I’ve never experienced this before.”

Elmose said the group spent the evening watching TV, playing card games and eating food in the staff cafeteria before retiring to bed in the showroom.

He said they picked up sofas from the living room and watched Christmas movies and a Liverpool-Everton football match with a large projector.

“We got some hot cinnamon buns, hot chocolate and coffee. There were even some beers,” Elmose said.

Elmose said that during the evening, three women who worked in a store in the neighborhood came and asked to come to shelter with them.

“They heard in the news that we were in this IKEA, and then they walked 700 meters in the blizzard and knocked on our door,” he said.

“Everyone was actually calm and we were able to make it nice and cozy,” Elmose said. “Our values ​​are to take care of each other, and then we had a nice time and enjoyed the evening.”

Elmose woke them up for coffee and several cinnamon buns in the morning and gave each customer a free pillow as a reminder of the “memorable experience”.

“In the morning, of course, we changed the sheets and bedspreads, and it was ready for the customers by 10 o’clock,” he said.
