A year-long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with double-digit temperatures and sunshine, resulted in a large turnout for Santa’s parade in the center of St. John’s Sunday.
The organizers estimate that about 55,000 people attended the event in the eerily hot weather.
About 20,000 pounds of food, with a cash value of $ 55,500, was raised in support of the Community Food Sharing Association, in addition to thousands more in cash donations.
Newfoundland Power matches the funds raised at the parade up to $ 10,000.
Dozens of festively decorated floats made their way along Duckworth Street and Water Street to the delight of children standing ready with letters for Santa.
And finally, Santa Claus and his right-wing reindeer, Rudolph, did not disappoint, waving and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas along the way.
And the moment we have all been waiting for! Santa’s sleigh on the way down Water Street, it’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas … accept the warm, sunny weather !? @VOCMBen @VOCMNEWS @ 590VOCM pic.twitter.com/kPW8iMzhqm
