Authorities in New York City are calling for a group of four people who got involved with a man in a wheelchair, beat him and stole his belongings earlier this month amid an increase in the number of robberies in the city.
The incident happened on November 8 just before noon. 2:30 a.m. in front of 267 Tremont Avenue in the Bronx when the 39-year-old victim had a verbal altercation with an unidentified woman, police said.

Surveillance video shows the man in the wheelchair talks to a male member of the group when he is first beaten. The three men and a woman continue to beat him before dragging him out of the wheelchair. The group then continues to hit, stomp and kick the man.

Police said the group took off with the man’s backpack, which held an iPhone 13 and $ 800 in cash.

The victim suffered head and body pain, but according to police, he refused medical attention.

From November 8 to November 14, NYPD statistics show that 352 robberies took place across the city – an increase of 30.9% compared to the same period last year. City-wide robberies year-to-date rose 2.9%, with 11,699 robberies committed up to November 14, compared to 11,373 in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the city’s crime rate rose year-to-date to 85,558 – an increase of 1.9% compared to the same period last year, according to NYPD statistics.

Police say they are looking for four people in connection with the incident.
