California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) fired again at Home Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) after the GOP chief criticized his proposal for a constitutional twenty eighth Modification to deal with gun violence.
McCarthy ripped Newsom’s suggestion for elevating the minimal age for gun consumers to 21, common background checks, a “cheap ready interval” for gun purchases and a ban on civilians shopping for assault weapons.
“Hey Governor Newsom, The 2nd Modification already exists — we don’t want a twenty eighth,” McCarthy wrote on Twitter. “However what we do want is for Presidential aspirants to cease pushing their excessive positions nationally.”
Newsom, in response to McCarthy’s criticism, slammed the Home speaker for “doing nothing to deal with” crime in his hometown of Bakersfield, California.
“Hey Kevin, What we want is you to come clean with the truth that you symbolize a district with the best homicide fee in our state ― and also you’re doing nothing to deal with it,” wrote Newsom.
Bakersfield’s 2021 homicide fee is greater than double that of cities like New York and San Francisco, The Each day Beast reported.
To this point, 2023 has logged 280 mass shootings and 18,649 deaths because of gun violence, in line with the Gun Violence Archive.
Newsom has taken photographs at McCarthy prior to now for his unwavering help of weapons amid the mounting violence.
McCarthy declined to reply questions as he walked by the Capitol within the wake of the Nashville, Tennessee, college capturing that left six folks, together with three youngsters, useless in March.
