The damning statistics, which present thousands and thousands of victims are being denied justice, led to MPs accusing the Authorities of being “asleep on the wheel” on tackling crime.

In all, 1.47million prison instances have been closed by police with out a suspect being recognized between January and September 2022.

That equates to five,378 offences going unsolved each day in England and Wales.

Final 12 months, the police watchdog warned that the majority victims of housebreaking, theft and theft weren't getting justice.
