'Ludicrous' to suggest Rushdie responsible for attack, says Britain

LONDON – It's “ludicrous” to recommend that novelist Salman Rushdie was answerable for the assault on him, a spokesman for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson mentioned on Monday, after Iran’s overseas ministry steered the writer was guilty.

“Clearly it's ludicrous to recommend that Salman Rushdie was in any manner answerable for this abhorrent assault on him,” the spokesman instructed reporters.

“This was not simply an assault on him, it was an assault on the fitting to free speech and expression and the UK authorities stands each by him and his household, however equally we stand in defence of free speech world wide.”
