FCC revokes U.S. authorization of Chinese telecom firm Pacific Networks

WASHINGTON -The U.S. Federal Communications Fee (FCC) on Wednesday voted to revoke authorization for Chinese language telecom Pacific Networks and its wholly owned subsidiary ComNet to supply U.S. telecommunications providers.

The 4-0 vote to revoke the authorisation first granted in 2001 is the newest transfer by the American regulator to bar Chinese language telecommunications carriers from america citing nationwide safety issues. The FCC stated Pacific Networks and ComNet are not directly and in the end owned and managed by the Chinese language authorities.

Jeffrey J. Carlisle, a U.S. lawyer representing Pacific Networks, declined remark. In January, he advised the FCC that Pacific Networks and ComNet are owned by CITIC Telecom Worldwide Holdings.

The FCC says the carriers are in the end managed by CITIC Group Corp, a Chinese language state-owned restricted legal responsibility firm.

Carlise’s letter stated the carriers “have interaction in very restricted and small scale facilities-based operations in america that don't pose nationwide safety issues….The first enterprise of the businesses is offering retail calling playing cards.”

The Chinese language commerce ministry criticised the U.S. actions, and stated China would undertake measures essential to safeguard the authentic rights of its companies.

“The U.S. ought to cease the groundless crackdown on Chinese language companies proper now and the wrongdoings of politicizing commerce and financial points instantly,” Gao Feng, a spokesman on the ministry, stated throughout a daily press convention on Thursday.

In October, the FCC revoked the U.S. authorization for China Telecom (Americas), saying it “is topic to exploitation, affect and management by the Chinese language authorities.” Chinese language Telecom didn't persuade a U.S. court docket to reverse the choice.

In 2019, the FCC rejected China Cell Ltd’s bid to supply U.S. telecommunications providers, citing nationwide safety dangers.
