With this winter weather, it’s a great time to hit the slopes! Skiing is always a fun and active way to take advantage of the season. And there are a lot of ski resorts within a few hours drive that are great for youngsters, beginners (and also veteran swooshere). This post has info on Whitetail and one of our day trips there last winter. And other relatively close resorts for day trips are Liberty and Bryce. Further afield, but good to check out for longer trips, are Roundtop, Massanutten, Wintergreen, Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, Snowshoe, Timberline and Wisp.

Inside info

With a lot of snow on the ground, you might be looking for indoor options (if you’re comfortable with that right now). There are guidelines in place for Covid everywhere, masks are required in DC and some MD counties, and you can choose to wear one yourself without a mandate. Something to note: The Smithsonian has temporarily reduced hours and days at some museums – this post indicates where and when along with info on other places to go.
