The Solar columnist, 61, yesterday instructed a district council assembly: “It's diversification of a farming enterprise.

“We have now been instructed to diversify, that’s precisely what this proposal is.”

However his private plea to councillors failed as he was refused planning permission after 53 objections had been obtained with solely 12 letters in assist in Chadlington, Oxon.

Planning officer Joan Desmond stated: “The proposed growth would have an intrusive and dangerous affect on the character of the realm.”
