Road blocked and large police presence near Ashton IKEA after ‘serious’ three cars

A road was closed in Ashton this afternoon after a serious accident with ‘three cars’.

Oldham Road (A627) in Ashton-under-Lyne was closed with police present.

It is believed that the incident happened around 4.15pm on the afternoon of December 19th.

The closure is currently in place between Cranbrook Street and the A6140 Wellington Road.

Pictures from the scene showed a large police presence and an ambulance present.

A witness told MEN that the damage to the vehicles looked ‘quite bad’.

They added: “I can see a red Peugeot that looks like it is missing a wheel. The front of the car is completely smashed.

Further down, a BMW and a Mercedes are standing next to each other outside the car wash.

“In terms of injury, it looks pretty bad.”

Buses were also diverted due to the closure, according to Transport for Greater Manchester.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area or allow extra time to travel.



Police remain at the scene as Oldham Road is closed

The nature of the incident is not yet known, but Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted.

A tweet from Transport for Greater Manchester said: “Due to a serious RTC, Oldham Road in Ashton-under-Lyne is closed near Ikea.

“GMP is present.

“Please check with @FirstManchester as their services will redirect via Wilshaw Lane.

“Please allow extra travel if you are going this way.”

According to AA’s live traffic updates, there is still slow traffic due to the incident.

An update read: “Road closed and slow traffic due to accident both roads between Cranbrook Street and A6140 Wellington Road.”
