ATLANTA – Gwinnett County Police Department investigators said a Christmas party Friday night was fatal when a man beat and killed his brother-in-law with a car during an altercation.
Police said detectives were at the scene of the collision Saturday morning on Great Oaks Drive near the intersection of Windsor Oak Circle in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The party began around 5pm on Friday, police said, and went into the night.
Police said a man in his early 40s who lived in the home was injured and died at a local hospital. Police said the collision appeared to be an “intentional act”.

Police said the incident began when the resident and his brother-in-law got into a physical fight early Saturday morning in the backyard of the house. Witnesses said the victim’s brother-in-law got into his black pickup and hit the man.
Police said the driver left the scene in his mid-30s. A witness reported the incident to police around 5:15 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators have asked to speak to the driver, but police have not issued arrest warrants.
Police are still investigating what triggered the fight and have not named the victim or the driver.
