If the Samsung Galaxy Note series was not dead before, it probably is now

If we were betting people, we would have put money on the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Note series had been killed forever, despite some suggestions to the contrary, and it seems more and more that we are right when the series reportedly not included in Samsung’s 2022 smartphone production plan.

That is according to the South Korean website ETNews, although it is not clear where they got this information.

The site adds that not only will there apparently be no Samsung Galaxy Note 22, but that Samsung will stop producing Galaxy Note 20 devices by the end of this year, which means it may soon be impossible to find any Note models in stores, other than used.

The site claims that Samsung’s main reason for abandoning the Note series is that it is now focused on foldable phones, where e.g. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 are likely to land when a new Note handset could otherwise have done so.

This may be a sensible move, as Samsung reportedly only sold 9.7 million Note devices in 2020, down from 12.7 million in 2019.

It may sound like big numbers, but apparently Samsung is aiming for 13 million sales for its foldable Galaxy Z series in 2022, so it looks like foldable phones are a growing business while the Galaxy Note series fell into disfavor.

Analysis: The Note series is probably dead in the name, but not in nature

Although we would take the above leak with a pinch of salt, we would be surprised if there was a new note in 2022 – or at all.

But it probably does not matter, because it looks like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will be more Note than not.

In fact, if one is to believe in leaks, it will be a Galaxy Note phone in all but name, with a similar square design and an S Pen slot. So the Galaxy Note series is probably dead, but probably not really.
