Nine new cases across Newfoundland
On Monday, the Ministry of Health announced nine new cases of COVID-19, but it is not clear whether the case at St. Mary’s is included in the total number. Five of the new cases are in Sundhedsregion Øst: Two people under the age of 20, one person between the ages of 20 and 39 and two people in the 40s. Four are contacts in a previously known case, while one is related to international travel.
There are two new cases in Central Health, both persons under 20 years of age, and two new cases in Western Health, both persons between 20 and 39. All four persons are contact persons in previous cases.
Heath public officials also reported two new cures and one person is in hospital due to COVID-19. The province’s active caseload is 21, up from 14 on Friday.
The number of COVID-19 tests conducted in Newfoundland and Labrador remains unavailable due to IT outages affecting the province’s health system.
The province also shared its initial details on how many children ages five to 11 have now been vaccinated against the virus on its COVID-19 website over the weekend.
As of Thursday, about 200 children, or 0.6 percent of the eligible population, had received a first dose.
Over 90 percent of people 12 years and older are fully vaccinated, while 94 percent have received at least one dose.
