ATLANTA (AP) — The prosecutor who's investigating whether or not then-President Donald Trump and his allies illegally meddled within the 2020 election in Georgia stated Monday she expects to announce charging selections within the case this summer time and urged “heightened safety.”
Fulton County District Lawyer Fani Willis wrote in a letter to county Sheriff Pat Labat that she expects to announce the selections within the time period of court docket that runs from July 11 to Sept. 1. She stated she was offering this info so Labat would have time to organize for sufficient safety across the courthouse.
“Open-source intelligence has indicated the announcement of choices on this case might provoke a major public response,” Willis wrote within the letter, including that some might contain “acts of violence that can endanger the protection of our neighborhood.”
As leaders, they have to be ready, she wrote, including that her staff could be in contact to speak about preparations.

Willis has been investigating whether or not Trump and his allies broke any legal guidelines as they tried to overturn his slender election loss to Democrat Joe Biden in Georgia.
She opened the investigation in early 2021, shortly after a recording of a telephone name between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was made public. In that decision, Trump steered the state’s high elections official may assist “discover” the votes wanted to overturn his loss within the state.
