Polar Bear Rampage In Alaska Village Leaves Woman, Boy Dead

A polar bear mauled and killed a lady and a boy after chasing residents within the distant village of Wales, in western Alaska, on Tuesday afternoon.

The animal was shot useless by a resident, ending the terrifying assault, Alaska State Troopers mentioned.

The names and ages of the victims weren’t instantly launched.

“Preliminary experiences point out that a polar bear had entered the group and had chased a number of residents,” troopers mentioned in a dispatch posted on its web site.

“Troopers and the Alaska Division of Fish and Recreation are working to journey to Wales as climate situations enable,” it added.

Deadly polar bear assaults in Alaska are “extraordinarily uncommon,” the Anchorage Every day Information famous in its report on the tragedy. The newspaper recalled one demise from a bear assault in 1990 and one other critical mauling in 1993.

Male polar bears can weigh greater than 1,700 kilos and stand as much as 10 ft tall, based on the Alaska Division of Fish and Recreation.

“Present and predicted future declines in sea ice” have designated the animals with threatened standing and can drive them to hunt meals elsewhere, the division added.
