Authorities say an off-duty Florida deputy “jokingly” pointed his gun at a fellow deputy ― considering the weapon was unloaded ― and shot and killed him.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Workplace Deputy Austin Walsh was at his Palm Bay house together with his roommate, Brevard County Deputy Andrew Lawson, early Saturday morning when Walsh suffered a single gunshot wound, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey stated in a video deal with Sunday.

The pair had been enjoying on-line video games and had been taking a break and speaking when Lawson allegedly pointed his firearm at Walsh and shot him, in what Ivey referred to as an “extraordinarily dumb and completely avoidable accident.”

Lawson referred to as 911 requesting assist, however Walsh is believed to have died instantly from his accidents, Ivey stated. Walsh was 23.

The Florida Division of Regulation Enforcement and the Palm Bay Police Division have been the only real companies investigating the capturing dying, in line with Ivey.

“Austin and Andrew had been the perfect of pals and Andrew is totally devastated over what occurred,” Ivey stated. “Even with that, there isn't a excuse for this tragic and completely avoidable dying.”

Lawson was arrested Sunday on a no-bond warrant issued by the Florida Division of Regulation Enforcement for manslaughter with a firearm, Ivey stated.

Walsh joined the sheriff’s division when he was 18, after serving a number of years as a member of the division’s Explorers program for teenagers and younger adults, in line with Ivey.
