Danish woman given three-year sentence for travelling to Syria to support IS

A Danish girl has been sentenced to a few years in jail for travelling to Syria to advertise the Islamic State (IS) group.

The 35-year-old was discovered responsible of "selling terrorist actions" and "coming into and residing in a battle zone".

Prosecutors stated that she had "facilitated the actions of IS, specifically by performing because the housewife and spouse of an energetic member of the terrorist organisation".

"Even in case you have not actively participated within the combating, we are saying you could assist a terrorist organisation by purchasing in its supermarkets, by taking good care of the youngsters, by being a housewife," prosecutor Trine Schjødt Fogh stated.

The Danish court docket heard how she had arrived in Syria eight years in the past and had stayed within the provinces of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.

"The previous few years have been troublesome for her, first within the caliphate, then in a jail camp and now in jail," defence lawyer Mette Gith Stage instructed the Ritzau information company.

"She misses her youngsters terribly and is raring for the case to finish in order that she and the youngsters can transfer on."

In October 2021, Denmark repatriated three girls and 14 youngsters from the Kurdish-controlled Roj camp in north-eastern Syria in a joint operation with Germany.

The three girls have been arrested on arrival in Denmark and have been detained ever since.
