Shattered glass of Beirut: Restored vessels once destroyed by port blast go on display in London

Conservators on the British Museum in London have revealed eight items of historical Roman glassware that they've repaired after they have been shattered within the Beirut port blast of 4 August 2020.

The fragile artefacts belonged to a case displaying 74 glass vessels on the American College of Beirut, which was destroyed when the shockwave from the port explosion hit the constructing. 

The devastating blast killed a minimum of 218 individuals, injured 7,000 and displaced 300,000, in addition to inflicting €15 billion of injury. 

Regardless of the shards of historical glass mixing with these from the case and surrounding home windows, conservators took on the painstaking venture to piece them again collectively.
