Russian Foreign Ministry says U.N. proposal to demilitarise Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant 'unacceptable'

MOSCOW – Russia’s International Ministry on Thursday dismissed a proposal by United Nations Secretary Basic Antonio Guterres to demilitarise the world across the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear energy plant in southern Ukraine.

Throughout a press briefing, International Ministry spokesman Ivan Nechaev stated the proposals have been “unacceptable”.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant was captured by Russia in March, shortly after it ordered tens of hundreds of troops into Ukraine in what it calls a “particular army operation”. The ability stays close to the frontlines, and has repeatedly come below fireplace in current weeks, sparking fears of a nuclear catastrophe.

Each Ukraine and Russia have accused one another of shelling the plant.
