Polar bear injures French woman on Norway’s remote Svalbard Islands

A French vacationer has been injured in a polar bear assault at a campsite in Norway’s distant Svalbard Islands.

The animal is believed to have attacked a tour group of 25 individuals at Sveasletta, early on Monday morning.

Authorities within the distant Arctic area say the lady's accidents to her arm weren't life-threatening. She was flown by helicopter to the hospital in the principle city, Longyearbyen.

"Pictures had been fired on the polar bear, which was scared away from the world," chief superintendent Stein Olav Bredli informed reporters. The injured animal was later discovered and killed by authorities.

The incident occurred within the central area of the Svalbard archipelago, greater than 800 kilometres north of the Norwegian mainland.
