MUNICH – The households of Israeli athletes murdered on the 1972 Munich Olympics are sad with contemporary German compensation affords and plan to boycott a ceremony marking the fiftieth anniversary of the assault in protest, their spokesperson advised Reuters on Friday.
An official ceremony is deliberate for Sept. 5 in Munich.
“I don’t need some euros to be thrown in my path. We aren't going to just accept that,” Ankie Spitzer, spokesperson for the households, advised Reuters Tv. The sums beneath dialogue haven't been disclosed.
“We aren't going to the memorial ceremony till Germany takes actual, duty, not solely by phrases,” added Spitzer, whose husband was killed within the assault.
A German authorities spokesperson stated Berlin regretted the households’ determination to not attend.
On Sept. 5, 1972, members of the Israeli Olympic crew have been taken hostage on the poorly secured athletes’ village by Palestinian gunmen from the Black September group.
Inside 24 hours, 11 Israelis, 5 Palestinians and a German policeman have been useless after a standoff and subsequent rescue effort erupted into gunfire.
