KYIV – Ukraine’s overseas ministry condemned an assault on a jail in territory held by Russian-backed separatists on Friday, and appealed to the Worldwide Prison Courtroom over what it stated have been Russian warfare crimes.
Russia stated Ukraine carried out Friday’s assault, through which it stated about 40 Ukrainian prisoners of warfare have been killed, and has denied involvement in any warfare crimes in Ukraine.
“We name on the Workplace of the Prosecutor of the Worldwide Prison Courtroom to urgently draw consideration to the atrocities of Russian servicemen within the context of the investigation of warfare crimes and crimes towards humanity dedicated by residents of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine,” the Ukrainian overseas ministry stated in a press release.
Such alleged crimes, it stated, coincided with “one other warfare crime by Russia – shelling of penal establishments in occupied Olenivka, the place it's believed that Ukrainians have been held prisoners of warfare.”
