John Oliver joined the Sen. Josh Hawley pile-on over newly launched video of the Missouri Republican fleeing from the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, shortly after elevating a fist in solidarity with the rioters exterior.
Hawley, who fundraised for months off the notorious picture of himself giving a closed-fist salute to insurrectionists, has been a laughingstock for the reason that Jan. 6 committee aired the footage at a listening to Thursday.
“That's painfully embarrassing,” Oliver stated Sunday on HBO’s “Final Week Tonight.” “That's the gait of a person who’s both simply gassed up an riot that's now bearing down on high of him, or simply drank a big iced espresso 45 minutes in the past.”
“Both approach, these legs scream, ‘I’ve made an enormous mistake,’” Oliver added.
Maybe the most effective response to the clip got here from former D.C. Metropolitan Police Division Officer Michael Fanone, Oliver stated.
Fanone, who was crushed and electroshocked by rioters that day, instructed Politico after the revelation that “Josh Hawley is a bitch. And he ran like a bitch.”
Oliver had his personal twist on that commentary.
“I personally wouldn't say that,” he stated. “I'd say Josh Hawley is a bitch who ran like a chihuahua desperately attempting to maintain up with its proprietor on an off-the-cuff stroll.”
