UK plans legislation to make changes to N. Ireland protocol - Truss

LONDON -British International Secretary Liz Truss mentioned on Tuesday she intends to introduce laws within the coming weeks to make modifications to the Northern Eire protocol, which was a part of the Brexit divorce deal.

“I'm asserting our intention to introduce laws within the coming weeks to make modifications within the protocol,” she instructed parliament.

Truss mentioned Britain’s desire remained a negotiated resolution with the European Union, and would proceed talking to EU negotiator Maros Sefcovic. She mentioned she had invited Sefcovic to London for extra talks as quickly as attainable.

She mentioned a legislative resolution was not about scrapping the Northern Eire protocol and remained in line with Britain’s obligations in worldwide regulation.

The laws, she mentioned, would contain a twin regulatory regime designed to make sure items transferring to Northern Eire and staying there could be freed from pointless administrative burden.

“The invoice will take away regulatory limitations to items made to UK requirements being bought in Northern Eire. Companies will be capable of select between assembly UK or EU requirements in a brand new twin regulatory regime,” she mentioned.
