MILAN — Italian monetary police has seized a Russian-owned superyacht valued at $578 million within the port of Trieste as a part of seizures of oligarch wealth to strain Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt the battle on Ukraine.
The “Sy A” yacht was recognized by Italian police as belonging to billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko, who made a fortune in fertilizer manufacturing and coal vitality. It was seized Friday night.
Video exhibits police in vehicles with flashing lights approaching the triple-mast yacht and officers boarding it.
Italian authorities final week seized some 143 million euros ($156 million) in luxurious yachts and villas belonging to Russian billionaires in such picturesque retreats as Sardinia, the Ligurian coast and Lake Como.
