EU says Budapest's veto of sale of Aegon's Hungarian arm breaches regulations

BRUSSELS – The European Fee stated on Monday that Hungary’s choice to veto Vienna Insurance coverage Group’s (VIG) acquisition of the Hungarian arm of Dutch insurer Aegon breached EU merger rules.

“With right now’s choice, the Fee orders Hungary to withdraw its veto by 18 March 2022. If Hungary fails to implement the choice, the Fee could resolve to launch an infringement process earlier than the Court docket of Justice,” the Fee stated in an announcement.
