Blasts heard in rebel-held city in eastern Ukraine - Reuters witness

DONETSK, Ukraine – The sound of a number of blasts have been heard at round 1615 GMT on Monday within the centre of the town of Donetsk, which is held by Russian-backed separatists in japanese Ukraine, a Reuters witness mentioned.

The character of the blasts was unclear.

President Vladimir Putin instructed his Safety Council on Monday that Russia ought to think about recognising the independence of two breakaway areas in japanese Ukraine, a step that will intensify its standoff with the West and Kyiv.
