We have lost our fear factor, Manchester City have not

John Aldridge is of the opinion that Liverpool have lost their fear factor, unlike Premier League rivals Manchester City, and stressed opponents knowing that the Reds are vulnerable defensively during this period.

The Reds are currently in third place in the top spot, ten points behind leading Manchester City and could only manage to get a draw 2-2 against second place Chelsea on Sunday.

Liverpool handed a two-goal lead to the Blues before the first half ended in Sunday’s clash, but this is not the first time they have allowed opponents to knock them back from winning positions in the league this season.

Reds legend Aldridge has admitted that Liverpool have lost their fear factor, while rivals Manchester City have retained theirs, giving them more luck in the matches.

Aldridge explained that opponents are aware that Liverpool’s backline can be exploited by putting the ball over the top, which has increased their struggles to maintain a lead.

“Things have definitely gone Man City’s way this season, there is no discussion about that”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“Whether you’re watching Covid outbursts, decisions in games or even injuries.

“On the other hand, sometimes you make your own luck and there were a few things that went our way when we won the league.

“The fear factor also brings you luck sometimes – City has it, and we do not.

– The teams know we are responsible defensively and they can put the ball over the top and give us a problem.

“Man City, with their monopoly money and the coach they have, have managed to encourage this squad even without a top striker.”

After a tough away match at Chelsea, Liverpool are ready to face Arsenal in the first match of their EFL Cup semi-final showdown on Thursday at the Emirates Stadium.
