Police are releasing photos of Vancouver Park caretaker taken hours before he was killed

Pictures of a Vancouver park ranger taken a few hours before he was killed are being published in an attempt to shed more light on a case that has confused police and those who knew Justis Daniel.

Officers discovered the death of 77-year-old Daniel inside his residence in Tatlow Park on the morning of December 10th.

He had been the caretaker of the 1.4-acre park located in a sleepy, affluent part of the Kitsilano neighborhood, where he was known as a gentle, kind-hearted man.

So far, no one is a suspect and no one has been arrested.

Another photo of Daniel shows the park’s caretaker apparently talking to people in the area of West 3rd Avenue on Dec. 9. (Vancouver Police Department)

The two surveillance camera images of Daniel released by the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) were captured on December 9, the day police believe he was killed. Investigators hope they can help someone come up with information.

“We specifically ask anyone who had any contact with Justice on December 9, as well as anyone who was on West 3rd Avenue between 6 p.m. [that day] to contact our investigators, “said Constable Tania Visintin.

Investigators are also seeking to speak with anyone who has video surveillance systems in their residence or business within the area of West 5th Avenue and Point Gray Road between Larch Street and Trutch Street, she said.

Anyone with information please call VPD’s Section for Major Crime at 604-717-2500.

“We believe that someone out there can have valuable information that can help us resolve this issue,” Visintin said.
