Naomi Onotera, a kindergarten teacher and mother of a two-year-old girl, has been missing since Aug. 28.

On Saturday, the integrated homicide investigation team said Obnes Regis had been arrested and charged with manslaughter and insulting human remains.

Police would not say where the remains were found, but confirmed that Regis was Onotera’s husband.

IHIT released very few details about the case, saying Regis remains in custody and that the case is now before the courts.

“We understand that the community has been eager for answers and this has been a difficult time for Naomi’s friends, family and the community as a whole,” said Sgt. David Lee, a spokesman for IHIT.

“We hope this arrest provides some answers and dampens some fears.”

Onotera’s home in Langley City near 200th Street and 50th Avenue was behind police tape last Friday. IHIT confirmed that police were on the scene at the residence and one person has been arrested but released few details.

“No further details on charges or circumstances / affiliation at this time,” Lee said. IHIT said the arrest was not made in the Onotera home.

The 40-year-old Onotera went for a walk the night of August 28 and did not return home. Her mother reported her missing the next day.
