Interior Health broadcasts call for qualified healthcare professionals – BC News

IH needs help with vaccines

While British Columbia is pushing for COVID-19 booster shots, Interior Health is urging qualified healthcare professionals to help with immunizations and provide support at immunization clinics across the region.

BC took a hard line against unvaccinated health workers by setting a deadline of October 26 for workers to receive at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Those who did not comply were put on unpaid leave and were given their first dose or fired until 15 November.

Interior Health is now looking for qualified healthcare providers that can include:

  • Retired nurses
  • Midwives
  • General practitioners and non-general practitioners
  • Nursing students
  • Dentists
  • Dental nurses
  • First aiders, including paramedics and firefighters
  • Pharmacies, Pharmacists
  • Chiropractors

“Qualified healthcare providers residing in the Interior Health region who are interested in assisting with the province’s continued immunization efforts are encouraged to contact Interior Health,” said a press release from Interior Health.

The province plans to introduce improved rapid test and booster shot programs to combat the highly contagious Omicron variant.

“It’s about buying us time to understand and prepare,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry on Tuesday at a press conference. “We need to protect our health care system for everyone who needs care.”

Exploding numbers of Omicron cases in Ontario, Quebec and the United Kingdom helped persuade officials to take stronger steps to help curb the variant.
