Elon Musk mocks new Twitter boss

Tesla CEO Elon Musk took a stab at Twitter’s new CEO Parag Agrawal on Wednesday and tweeted a meme depicting the leader as Stalin and his predecessor, Jack Dorsey, as Nikolay Yezhov, a Stalin employee assassinated under his leadership .

Musk’s tweet comes as Agrawal has been criticized for an earlier comment in which he said the social media giant’s role is “not to be bound by the first amendment.” In addition, Agrawal previously tweeted: “If they do not want to distinguish between Muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists.” He later issued one follow-up tweet that he simply quoted comedian Asif Mandvi from “The Daily Show”.

It also comes after former Trump adviser and CEO of the conservative social media platform GETTR, Jason Miller, expressed concern that “censorship and political discrimination” would come to Twitter under Agrawal’s leadership.

On Monday, Dorsey announced he would step down from the role of CEO. The Twitter co-founder served as CEO from 2006 to 2008 and returned to the role in 2015 after former CEO Dick Costolo resigned.

“There’s a lot of talk about the importance of a company becoming ‘founder-led,'” Dorsey said in an email to employees that was shared on Twitter on Monday. “Ultimately, I think it’s highly limiting and a single point of failure. I’ve worked hard to make sure this business can break away from its founder and founders.”

Dorsey explained that Agrawal, Twitter’s former chief technology officer, who was unanimously elected by the company’s board, has been his choice as successor for “some time given how deeply he understands the company and its needs.” He added that Agrawal “has been behind any critical decision that has turned this business around.”

“I want you all to know that this was my decision and I own it. It was obviously a tough one for me. I love this service and the company … and you all so much. I’m really sorry of it … but still really happy. ” Dorsey’s email ended. “There are not many companies that come to this level. And there are not many founders who choose their business over their ego. I know we want to prove that this was the right move.”

Agrawal said in a lengthy statement to staff that he was “honored and humbled” to serve in the role and grateful for Dorsey’s mentorship, friendship and leadership and the Twitter team.

“Our purpose has never been more important. Our people and our culture are unlike anything in the world. There are no limits to what we can do together,” he continued. “We have recently updated our strategy to achieve ambitious goals, and I think the strategy is bold and right. But our critical challenge is how we work to execute it against courage and deliver results – that’s how we want to do it. Twitter for the best it can be “for our customers, shareholders and for each and every one of you.”

In addition to leading Twitter, Dorsey is also CEO of financial payment company Block, formerly known as Square. His shared responsibilities at the two companies have previously raised questions about his ability to appropriately focus on issues facing Twitter. Last year, billionaire investor Paul Singers Elliott Management launched an attempt to remove Dorsey from her role. However, Twitter’s board committee oversees the review later recommended keeping Dorsey in the role.
