BREAKING Boy arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after ‘hundreds’ of Christmas shopping witness to stabbing

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in the city center earlier today (December 18).

The arrest comes after another 16-year-old teenager was taken to hospital with a stab wound after violence flared up between a number of people on Priory Queensway just after 3.30pm on the busiest shopping day of the year.

West Midlands Police said they are still trying to work on identifying others involved in the incident.

The 15-year-old suspect remains in custody to be questioned.

Detective Laurence Green appealed to shoppers in the “really busy” area of ​​the city center to appear as witnesses.

He urged: “The area was really busy with shoppers at the time and we know that hundreds of people in the area at that time saw what was happening.

The force said earlier that the 16-year-old victim’s wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for the force said the incident – which was close to Colmore Plaza – was ‘isolated’ and ‘there was no threat to the wider public’.

They added that one of the attackers is believed to have held a machete.

Priory Queensway was closed in both directions after the attack, and another roadblock was erected on nearby Moor Street Queensway.

West Midlands Police issued a statement earlier tonight: “We are investigating after a teenager was stabbed in Birmingham city center this afternoon. We were called to Priory Queensway just after 3.30pm to report violence involving a number of people.
