The Met Office has issued a red weather forecast for the east

Traffic Scotland has announced that a diversion route is in place via the A199. This is expected to add approximately 10 minutes to the affected journeys.

They also announced on Twitter that “the Clackmannanshire Bridge is currently closed to high-sided vehicles due to strong winds!”

Drivers are encouraged to plan their trip in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Network Manager for South East Scotland, said: “This section of the A1 includes a visible bridge over the River Tyne, so with gusts of up to 84 mph tonight we have closed it to all traffic for safety reasons, in accordance with the bridge’s wind management plan. “
