Media downplayed Waukesha parade attacks as facts did not match predetermined narrative, experts say

It’s just over a week ago that a career criminal plowed his red Ford Escape SUV through barricades and into the crowd at the Waukesha Christmas Parade, killing six people and injuring dozens.

The attack initially looked like it would be the next big mainstream media story – but then Darrell Brooks Jr. became. accused of five counts of first-degree premeditated murder, and the press has largely lost interest. The tragedy has not resulted in 24-hour cable news discussion about Brooks’ troubled past or possible motives, and regular investigative reporters do not appear to be searching for clues.

“Left-wing media today want to frame every story through their predetermined narrative lenses. That’s what’s happening here with the reporting of the Waukesha Christmas parade story,” DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall told Fox News Digital .

WAUKESHA PARADE MISTIC DARRELL BROOKS OVER 5 COUNT OF 1ST DEGREE CAUTION, HELD AT 5 MILLION.

Brooks’ violent past dates back to 1999, when he was charged and later convicted of aggravated assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Most recently, he allegedly ran over a woman and punched her in the face on November 2nd. He has an outstanding court order in Nevada to skip bail due to a charge of sex crime and has shared a series of alarming posts on social media that could help provide a motive.

“These points were missing in the latest CNN reporting. In fact, most businesses have not only avoided digging into Brooks and a potential motive, they have completely avoided Brooks’ involvement,” Fourth Watch editor Steve Krakauer, a former CNN digital producer, wrote.

CNN was shocked on Sunday by declaring that a moment of silence would mark a week ago that “a car” was driving through the parade. Last week, The Washington Post used a similar tactic, tweeting that the tragedy was “caused by an SUV” when both Liberal businesses failed to mention who was driving the red Ford Escape in widely mocked, viral tweets. In the article describing the events during the parade, Posten continued to rely on the vehicle as the apparent cause of the bloodshed.

Even after Brooks was finally mentioned in the fifth episode of the Post story, the following episodes read: “The SUV then drove down Main Street, hitting more than 40 people and killing at least five of them … Down the road, instead of following the parade route and taking a turn to get to Wisconsin Avenue, the SUV went straight through North West Avenue and passed over the barriers. “

Just as CNN was shaken to blame for the car, critics slammed Posten on social media for rogue the SUV.

“Cars do not drive, of course. People drive cars,” Krakauer wrote in his newsletter.

“Democracy dies in the dark, as the WashPost slogan now says. Apparently, so do efforts to hide the culprit behind a mass murder if it does not fit into a preferred narrative,” Krakauer added. “Here we see a bias of omission – and a window into the sad reality that our media is not learning from its mistakes.”

McCall agrees, noting that what is omitted from a news item is often as important as what is included.

“This ‘omission journalism’ is deliberately carried out and does a disservice to the news-consuming public,” McCall said. “The context of news stories is important, and the background of the alleged perpetrator is part of that context. It gives a sense of causation as to why an event happened. These news topics are obviously sensitive, but it does not benefit society when news media want to clean up. content to massage public perception. ”

CNN and the Post are hardly the only liberal news organizations to downplay the attack or Brooks’ role.

MEDIA BLASTED TO REFER TO WAUKESHA PARADE ATTACK AS ‘CRASH’

Monday morning, The New York Times had not covered the parade attack since Nov. 25. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow recently spent an entire segment on the horrific attack without mentioning Brooks once. She referred to him only as “the suspect”, nor did MSNBC put his mugshot on screen during the episode.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow did not think it necessary to mention Darrell Brooks Jr. during a longer section on the parade attack.

CNN BISED FOR TWEET, SIGHT, WAUKESHA PARADE ATTACK WAS CAUSED BY ‘A CAR’ THAT DRIVED THROUGH THE PARADE

“CNN and other liberal media portray this as a car problem and shy away from focusing on the perpetrator because it does not fit their narrative that ‘white supremacy’ is the biggest threat to domestic terrorism,” said Cornell Law School professor and media critic. William A. Jacobson told Fox News Digital.

“Just look at how they treated Kyle Rittenhouse, who did not commit any crime but who was instantly falsely portrayed as a white overlord militia member,” Jacobson added. “Narrative, not facts or evidence, appears to be indicative of CNN and others.”

“3 left-wing friends have independently texted me about this disappearing national story. They understand what’s going on, but can not quite bring themselves to say it directly.” It’s cursed, “wrote one. that they now understand better conservative media complaints, “says Fox News contributor Guy Benson tweeted.

Other media outlets have described the attack as a “parade-driven” one that downplays the intentions the prosecutors have directed at the career criminal.

PBS wrote “Waukesha parade crash destroys holiday favorites ‘Dancing Grannies’.” USA Today repeatedly wrote about the “Waukesha parade crash” going so far as to describe Brooks as a “Waukesha parade crash suspect.” Newsweek also updated news on the tragedy under the banner “Waukesha Deadly Christmas Parade Crash.”

“BREAKING: Prosecutor: The 6th person, a child, died in a deadly parade in Wisconsin,” CBS News correspondent David Begnaud tweeted Tuesday.

“Man charged with Waukesha parade led appeared first in court,” NPR also stated in a headline.

CNN, HuffPo, ABC, Yahoo and Time Magazine have also referred to the horrific incident as a crash.

The framing even angered the outspoken liberal actress Debra Messing.

“Dear Mainstream Media – a man deliberately drove his car through a parade in which he killed 6 and injured 50+. It was not an Accident,” Messing tweeted last week. “Call it by its name #WaukeshaMassacre.”

“And it was a domestic terrorist attack. Do not minimize it. Please,” she added.

Dan Gainor of the Conservative Media Research Center feels that the press is simply lying to the American public.

“If you were really aware of the old media, you would think a self-driving car had committed a terrorist act,” Gainor told Fox News Digital.

“The legacy press is lying alt about everything. They lied about Trump, Russia, Biden, Hunter Biden and more. And they will keep lying because that’s all they have left,” Gainor continued. “A large percentage of Americans do not trust them, and the rest seize. Left-wing journalists cling to their waning power as a drowning man grabs a tree trunk in a flood.”
